I'm going to assume all the other ships are sort of dimensionlly routed in that area, and it's demonstrating how far away Earth is in comparison. Since it's a circle I think it also represents that the other ships are looped in the dimensions they crossed into? Meaning there's no real way out. Neptune seems really disappointed in themselves.
