i kind of got the gist of the mercury ship's actions but i'd be willing to bet i am missing key points
from my perspective mercury initiated the eventuality of a black hole, the duplicate mercury ships stabilized the time distortions which resulted and the 'black hole' destroyed the weird chamber all of the planets were stuck in (while simultaneously compressing the mercurial rock ship into diamond?)
i don't know mang maybe i am off the base but it's so well done i don't even mind

I am so lost in this story, but for some reason I can't stop reading it.

I think, given that it's the last planet, you don't expect them to rise to the occasion here. It's not how character building works, from my perspective. The sum of their falls to improve themselves should come into play in the end.
But for what it's worth, the Discovery team /is/ responsible for inspiring Mercury, which led to their freedom, so saying they did nothing is a bit off.

I have to say, the "Discovery crew is overcome by angst and despair and fails to do anything" bit is getting old. Especially since everyone just suddenly took a back seat to Yuri's issues. But I'll see what you do with it.
