but even with care, and in captivty rats do not live to, let us say 10. I think it also has something to do with the number of heart beats a speciese is set with.

If Acheff is a guinea pig, is Hector just a short-haired variety or are cross-species offspring possible?

Hi Kuu,
I don't think anything has its original lifespan in this future setting.
Currently, out lifespans are increasing due to better medical technology, not due to evolution. Terminal diseases last longer. In the future, we may finally improve this state and be able to live longer, fuller lives without medical support.
