I feel like these amazing, long pages that are a whole narrative in themselves is one of zack's trademarks xD Also oooh so she DID kill the rat? I wasn't positive, but i guess this cinches it.. Also i love how acai's willow leaves are like chains (woops, thought that was new cherry at first, like the leadup to the image of her right after)

i think, given the sheer number of people who have found comfort in her, Fig was absolutely the standout of this arc. her character was the best part about it and managed to capture (hehe) something very compelling and sympathetic. even i feel that it's just a shame that a lot of the commentary in the comic around her and some of the themes... misstepped so much.

Yeah, this is my favorite page. I think this may have been when I realized how strongly I was identifying with Fig. For better or for worse, this identification veered away in the last quarter of the story: where Egress escaped her obsession by transfiguring her captivity, I escaped in a more literal sense. Delightful callback to the Labyrinth of Oblivion! She's clearly traversing/has traversed its corridors for far too long... FUN FACT: While the original Greek labyrinth didn't fall under this definition, in modern times we reserve the term labyrinth to refer to a unicursal maze--that is, a maze that lacks any junctions and is therefore a single snakelike path from start to finish. Perhaps the inescapability of the Labyrinth of Oblivion comes from a lack of choice, so you're doomed to wade deeper into a tunnel of misery...that is, until you start carving out your own shortcuts. its interesting as i keep coming back to the page—both sides of the labyrinth of oblivion are from Greenie, the strangler fig roots from their time before everything that went down and the electricity from who he is now. Is that his control of everyone within the helix?

OH HELL YEAH DID XX JUST BURST OUT??? (white Fig shifts to grey)/ That last panel is so friggin dope!!! This whole page is beautiful. The shot with the vines/energy looking down at XX & fig is SO GOOD. So much great little detail, a great summation of everything. XX's moment of realization & rebirth.

are the microbes drawn for Apple accurate? I think I see a Bacteriophage. I know it's a thing because giant microbes makes a doll of one, and conspiracy theorists use images of them to say they are nano bots that are injected when you get a vaccine

Hi commentator 28, I don't know what's going to happen on any particularly numbered page. I go one page at a time. But I do know what has to happen for any given page as I'm working on it. If you're asking as to whether or not I have an outline, I do; this story was outlined years ago, so I have an idea about what has to happen next as the story is drawn.

Wow. This page is gorgeous. I'm new to Nofna but this makes me think of the earlier panel when XX first started her prostitution - with the profile images of her patrons swirling in a helix. It's so impactful and actually draws me in, making me internally narrate it more than usual, with sound effects as the scenes pass. Amazing work

@Papeipou same. Add to that the way each arc's characters organically incorporate the things around them in their attempts to create meaning, which leads to intriguing moments of symbolism like the double helix of the strangler fig and Greenie's telenoia here.

She's gray again! This has gotta mean mind-Fig's grip has slipped, especially since this page is titled 'kick from the womb'. A little bit of her true self emerges, and I can't wait to see what that entails (hopefully nothing negative considering how pissed she looks here). I've waited so long for this, yet I'm still hungry for more.. Really amazing page. My favorite thing about NoFNA has always been it's exploratory nature and it's redefining of art and boundaries. I always imagine this medium as something like the modern development of an art form.
