I think this experience has begun to fuse the two - xx and Fig - together. Maybe that is what will come out of the "womb" fig in her dreams. That expression in the second to last panel is so poignant.

Dunno why people think this isn’t Fig. XX knows that “respect for others becomes your own self-respect.” XX would have checked in with him re: his vow, not his possible belief that he hurt her. Fig is using love the love she felt on her own to spin this. Also, called it, last page. I know that literally the last time Smoothie looked at her they had sex, but cmon. Treat her like a person who deserves to be looked at. Right now he’s treating her like a cross between furniture and the enemy.

His tail is definitely fluffier. I was so confused initially because she’s wearing the strangler and the dialogue is with him, but he looks so much like her here. I wish she would have babies @camila but I don’t think she’s in season, is she?

im surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but is he staring through a metaphorical mirror in this panel? it seems hes questioning all his beliefs. the ironic part to me is that fig says she made love, and its clear that a part of her really does love him, but i dont think thats what actually happened. she just said everything she could to get him to give in, and then once she had him where she wanted him, she didn't even offer any sort of reassurance. "do you want me? show me." she might as well have said "prove it." this is not what loving sex looks like, she basically exploited him. i think smoothies remarks and general attitude are totally founded in this case. i feel really sorry for them both.

Aww, XX! Was not expecting that response from her, tbh. (That she made love! I bet Fig wants little to do with the romantic aspect of sex.) Hard times for both of them. Both overcoming the collapses of their personal philosophies/color loss. Hopefully they can evolve together...but honestly I am not sure that can happen. :(

i mean! he’s been approaching their relationship in a way a therapist/psychologist would. ethically, it’s a disaster to sleep with a client; it’s not only a conflict of interest, it’s also a relationship founded on an imbalance of power, which is the kind of relationship that brought her to the brothel in the first place. he must feel awful that he contradicted his own beliefs, but it must feel terrible to feel as if he’s taken advantage of his ‘client/patient’ in that way. it puts him in a position similar to that of Greenie.

I don't think it's just his thesis, I think he actually loved her and he thinks he hurt her and can't be trusted with her anymore, in a "Maybe I can't help you after all," way. He probably feels like he took advantage of her and couldn't stop it from happening. And she knew his position, his original wishes, and she still pushed it, though she could still hear the little voice telling her no. Then he pushed back. They wanted this; They didn't want this. Both of them violated a trust they had developed, whether one agrees with its basis or not. Neither of them were fully on board, so there wasn't absolute consent between them. You know, for maximum tragedy because Zack. blinks Also! It's really cool all the LOOK AT ME thing is a motif. Look back at pages 95, 212 (maybe another I'm forgetting?). It got flipped on its head this page. ALSO ALSO! Let's make sure to take a jab at (E)XY/Greenie because they never "made love" it seems, (I guess it was all sex and then guilt/responsibility). I do wonder if he's gonna be some kind of smug after her walk of shame back. I feel like he'd check in to see if (S)XY's blood is on her upon her return. But I want them to have a confrontation so baaaaaad....

Well, I think a lot of the shame is directed towards himself, being unable to uphold the thesis he staked so much of his identity on. He spent all this time telling her how people (specifically, him) can overcome their sexual urges through willpower... only for him to become the ultimate hypocrite after a few drinks. I'm not surprised he's too ashamed to show his face to her! Though his statement about her being "too much" is 100% dickish.

The fact he's not even able to face her really says so much on his views of sex and, by extension, sex workers. Even if he loves Fig, her role as a courtesan/object of sexual desire probably makes her "tainted" enough for him to regret this. Instead of sex + love being an expression of intimacy, for him it's... still shameful. Damn. Poor Fig.

Poor Fig, it's bad on Smoothie's part that he can't even face her and is just treating her like he's too ashamed to even look at her. It can't feel good to be the object of someone's regret. Even though I think most of us expected Smoothie to be the one heartbroken, it's Fig. He better talk to her about this and not avoid her and try to act like this never happened. To do so would be completely trashing her feelings in this situation and acting like the way she feels doesn't matter. Gah, gonna be a hard wait to see how this plays out.
