From moose to squirrels to sparrows get drunk in real life! They just eaten rotten fruit. And no, not by accident, they willfully return to the same rotten fruit to experience it again. Old Halloween pumpkins are actually a popular source. Any herbivore and omnivore mammal or bird can safely experience drunkenness, but it poisons carnivores at very low doses, they have no safe level of drunk. I don’t know about insectivores but I assume they’re in the same boat as carnivores.

Smoothie is nicknamed that as a counterpoint to his friend, "Scruffy". Scruffy was just a natural nickname based on his appearance, and Smoothie is directly a result of it because compared to Scruffy, his fur is smooth. We are very good at nicknames.

Oh, hey, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to arrive at the conclusion of Fig biting Greenie """down there""". I don't usually talk in comment sections, and it would have felt weird to come in and say "so am i the only one who thinks fig bit green in the dick or what".
Either way, though, yeah, Scruffy was up to something with that wine. Fig's probably still a bit riled up considering the only action she's gotten in forever was the VD, but Smoothie hasn't gotten distracted by how hot Fig is in a long, long time. This does not seem to be going in the most positive direction.
While I'm here, does anyone have any clue why we're calling Smoothie "Smoothie"? I didn't get into Syconium until the backlog was pretty long (in the 200s) so I haven't seen much in the comments except the super recent stuff.

@Blazic If you get the chance, reread from pages 13 to 70, which is where most of the implications for the theory take place.

The chomping incident is a popular fan theory based on a huge amount of hinting from throughout the story about Fig having damaged Greenie in some way and his career as a prostitute having ended abruptly. The theory goes that she bit his dick off, basically.
Soothie got the scar on page 193, from Fig chomping his face in the final panel. You can see him getting all bloody on page 194.

.... Okay, I'm so sorry I have a really shoddy memory, and I only started watching and reading comments about halfway to the present, if someone could answer a couple questions for me?
What is 'The chomping incident' ? Among the others that have occurred.
Also, how did Smoothie get the scar? Was it ever mentioned and I'm just missing it or?
Sorry for the hassle!

are their tail tufts growing from starting to get the drunk and possibly aroused, or do they just precive it? but this is NOFNA where stoats can use fire without matches.

I theorized waaaay back when that perhaps Greenie trimmed his own tail as a kind of snub towards his old profession. It seems like a kind of silly theory but shrug.
I really like Fig's explanation of abstract in this sequence. But oh dear I feel like this lesson is going to end in disaster. She's getting warmed up all right.
Is that another firefly alembic on panel 3?

Tail shape seems to be a signal for sexiness in this story. XX is physically attractive/sexually available with a very large tail; Smoothie is hot and also has a larger tail. Maybe Greenie's smaller tail is a symbol (not intentionally done) for the fact that he has damaged genitalia and is therefore sexually unavailable.

In some cultures cutting your hair or trimming/shaving your beard showed shame or grief.
This is conjecture of course, but it would be interesting if he was chopping off his tail hair for some reason like that.
