47 , I believe in turning the other cheek but that does not mean Doing Nothing. The Something I believe in is a very delicately balanced and exactly measured response that society just can't believe in right now. Norway's open prison island may be too soft for my liking, but if it turns out that it works, I will eat crow on that judgement.

50, you put it pretty rightly. Knowledge isn't an on / off switch, but a dimmer. You can have a will and a way to do something while not comprehending what will happen until it does. I fucking hate using this analogy, but one could plan a perfect murder, even a killing spree, and be unable to imagine the guilt and horror of going through with it. Only realize it. After the fact, when it's too late and cannot be taken back. Doesn't really matter how much one can delude themselves to thinking they're cold and monstrous enough to do it, there can always be that last ounce of conscience left in someone to instill guilt.

@49, I think 46 meant that "they don't know what they're [fully] doing". Green has planned all of this out for what seems to be revenge + a power grab, but past that, he's never really seemed to consider the consequences of his actions, nor does he seem to care as long as he reaches his goal. He's continuing the cycle and is showing no signs of stopping. I don't think he could, honestly, as he has definitely passed the point of no return in these next two pages.
49 . by: October 6, 2017, 11:15 am

46, what gave you the idea Green doesn't know what he's doing?? It seems very much premeditated at this point. He's spent weeks planning and executing this. In page 208 he looks over the body of his victim and laughs at him. These things require him to know what he's doing.

If people won't let the violence they've endured die with them, they need to be stopped before they hurt other people. Not vengefully by committing the same violence back against them, but by keeping them away from potential victims/rehabilitating them. I know prison systems can be very flawed, but that is their basic concept.
48 . by: October 6, 2017, 9:30 am

And yes, they know what they're doing.
47 . by: October 6, 2017, 9:29 am

Standing by and allowing evil to continue, not doing anything about it, isn't being "better", though.
46 . by: October 5, 2017, 8:17 pm

42...

I've had people try to kill me. I've had every reason to live out a Charles Bronson fantasy.

I am probably expected to. Because Hammurabi's barbarism is still the very root of the concept of justice. To dominate over your enemy. To bring ruin. Mutilate, rape, enslave, kill. Survival of the fittest. Answering the wickedness of others by being better at it when you do it in kind.

That's justice. And I can tell you with the wisdom of having stared death and all my demons in the face, that to do unto others is exactly why our world is such a pitiful fucking cycle of revenge. The justified are in fact no better nor different from their transgressors. They are only continuing what was started.

Which is exactly why I never filed charges on my rapist, to have him raped in prison by someone that would be empowered to continue their own violence. And exactly why I did not kill anyone that tried to kill me.

Because if Greenstreaks could have been strong enough to have let the violence he endured die with him, as I have been thus far, none of this misery would have befallen those around him. Like it will eventually befall him again. Because power is fleeting and it fades. And by the time you are gone, all you accomplished was perpetuating human misery.

I pray for people like Green. Because God Damn Justice. People like him, they don't know what they're doing.

All I can see when I look at the Green Bean are his dark horns. Also the stray whisker that just kind of begs to be plucked out.

Right. Perfectly reasonable.
43 . by: October 2, 2017, 9:06 am

Greenie isn't the bad guy for isolating his mentally ill girlfriend in a way he knows makes her hostile and then triggering a violent episode by sending in a person with authority over her to make sexual advances, guys. It's all perfectly reasonable.
42 . by: October 2, 2017, 8:52 am

Eeeh Green isn't the bad guy here, VD did try to kill him first. I'd also try to kill the person who tried to kill me.
41 . by: Furrama October 1, 2017, 10:26 pm

It is a really clever detail, since the source is from light bouncing off their blue mantles.

By the way, I thought that said "Fig's tree" this whole time.
40 . by: October 1, 2017, 9:18 pm

that blue is like a little jedi hand wave
39 . by: Witticaster October 1, 2017, 7:55 pm

Rest in pieces, VD.

I really like the colors on this page, particularly the strategic usage of lightning-blue.
38 . by: October 1, 2017, 1:55 am

oh god, and you just know he'd say it was the VD's idea to give Fig a break...
37 . by: September 30, 2017, 10:07 pm

There's also incredible irony in the statement "Fig's free."
36 . by: September 30, 2017, 2:38 pm

I knew that Green's "Watch out or I'll steal this place from right under you" was going to happen eventually.
35 . by: September 30, 2017, 3:40 am

Well, the VD is getting up there in age and is physically different from the stoats that Fig has torn up. I'd wager it would be easy for her to accidentally kill him, especially if they're playing around with his kink.
34 . by: Furrama September 30, 2017, 1:48 am

Naaaah, it's been too many pages since Zack last killed/horrifically scarred a character. ;)
33 . by: September 29, 2017, 11:24 pm

lets think positive, maybe she actually is able to prevent anything violent happening!
32 . by: Dani September 29, 2017, 6:59 pm

Ohhh SNAP! Pun intended.
31 . by: Furrama September 29, 2017, 5:07 pm

At this point my only question is if the VD and Fig gets some sort of scene, or if we get a jump cut to blood everywhere.

Either way, I have a hunch that (E)XY will be there to "console" Fig/XX afterwards.
30 . by: September 29, 2017, 4:58 pm

A little thing of note upon looking back at her first mauling, Greenie tells her 'not to let it happen again', and here he is now, actively stoking the fire to provoke her to do it again to people he has something against.
29 . by: Juna September 29, 2017, 4:45 pm

@28 Haha oh yea, and the little glance Greenie throws in the last panel.

And I'm basically on the same wavelength about XX and the VD. She's given scratches to other R-bodies but has only seriously injured other stoats, if I have that right. But she's so pent up right now, that she'll probably do a number on the VD, at the least. I think, though, whether or not VD ends up pushing her buttons enough to get killed, XX will still fixate hard on Smoothie. And it'll redouble the fear she has that Fig will destroy everything she cares about.
28 . by: September 29, 2017, 12:49 pm

@27, Yeah, that's kind of what I'm thinking. I can't see Fig killing another person just because she gets too into it. Moreover, Fig only attacked that other customer because he was also a stoat. Even if she is pretty unstable at the moment, maybe the VD won't be able to push her buttons, provoking an attack. And sure, the VD likes predation, but it's not like he'd put that fixation over his own survival. He'd defend himself, I hope.

Maybe Greenie doesn't need Fig to kill the VD, but only harm him enough so he can't do his job. That way Greenie gets the control he wants while keeping the complications of murder out of the situation.

I also like irony of how Greenie tells him he "looks a little wiser" and then sends him into a trap.
27 . by: September 29, 2017, 10:52 am

Or, well.. I guess it depends what happens. If VD only gets mauled by Fig but not killed, it just seems like bad things will happen to Fig. If VD gets killed and Greenie doesn't want it to get out that Fig did it, the body will have to be hidden and... witnesses taken care of (uh oh bird sentry??). If Fig is still in berserk mode then I guess Smoothie could still be in danger, but I don't see Fig being violent again after that pent up bad energy gets an outlet?

I think it's more likely that after the experiences she's had since last winter, the VD isn't in as much danger as Greenie thinks.
26 . by: September 29, 2017, 10:32 am

It's interesting that Greenie wants VD out of the way more than he cares about getting Smoothie out of the picture. This is a trap that can only be sprung once.
25 . by: September 29, 2017, 10:30 am

hmmmm Greenie got a blue color when he had his lightbulb moment, and VD gets a blue cast when he gets caught up in the trap. Blue like the nodes?
24 . by: September 29, 2017, 7:52 am

Is anyone else reading VD as venereal disease every time? sdfdsgs
23 . by: September 29, 2017, 7:50 am

Greenie, you miserable little d*ck. I hope X comes after you for "dessert".

And VD, maybe you shouldn't be listening to his advice.
22 . by: bluefan September 29, 2017, 7:13 am

Rereading, wow I totally did not notice of forgot that he showed up in white before, around page 87! XD
20 . by: bluefan September 29, 2017, 6:54 am

Somehow being white makes Greenie all the more ominous. I was surprised, then immediately wary when I saw the first panel. And he didn't disappoint.

I want to hope that VD survives whatever he gets himself into, that he plays an important role in the liberation of the brothel and of XX, but I get the feeling that would be a futile hope.... Still love the story, the psychology, the DRAMA

19 . by: kuu September 29, 2017, 5:39 am

this was the rat who wanted to "experience predation" right? so I guess I can agree with #16
18 . by: Juna September 29, 2017, 4:51 am

@9times Ah, you're right on that one. From what I remember in the beginning, Greenie's reputation seemed to be known well enough that the doctor could have a chat/lecture w XX about it. And if not that, the credit system ledger records who he came in contact with. Still, it doesn't need to say -what- he did for it... but thematically speaking it's appropriate for him to come back to the brothel life.
17 . by: September 29, 2017, 4:06 am

I’d like to die in a badass knife fight but it’s still evil for someone to lead a knife-wielding maniac into my house.
16 . by: 9times September 29, 2017, 3:39 am

#14, I think it was pretty heavily implied that ex-prostitutes can't get legitimate work in this society.

And c'mon, this is probably how VD would have wanted to die.
15 . by: September 29, 2017, 2:46 am

FOOLISH
14 . by: Juna September 29, 2017, 2:29 am

@Matt yea, Greenie has a legitimately terrifying mind. Not necessarily because of his blunt cruelty (though it does play a part), but because he can seize control with precision. First guy wasn't kidding about 'you can't tell what he might do'.

Actually it makes me wonder why he wasn't able to get any substantial work before the events of the story (did he try to?). I suppose his favored occupation is pulling the strings.
13 . by: Mana September 29, 2017, 2:00 am

Winter, the season of death.
12 . by: Mutt September 29, 2017, 12:58 am

I think it will be even more restrictive than before. That's a scary thought, though. The rat brothers were selfish, but also acknowledged their courtesans as individuals (sometimes).

That said, Green is a very well written antagonist. He's manipulative in the most subtle way possible, and this page is one of the better examples of that.
11 . by: September 29, 2017, 12:13 am

u know he dead

Funny that they're all white right now- Greenbean, Fig, Smoothie, and the VD.
10 . by: September 29, 2017, 12:01 am

Honestly I don't like either of them. I want them both to die.
9 . by: September 28, 2017, 11:51 pm

Shit, I can't imagine what sort of state the brothel will end up in if he gets chomped and Green takes over.
8 . by: 9times September 28, 2017, 11:47 pm

I LOLed.
7 . by: Mutt September 28, 2017, 11:45 pm

Oh my goodness, Green, COME ON.
6 . by: September 28, 2017, 11:30 pm

Asshole knows exactly what he's doing.
I mean, I understand wanting to kill the VD since VD tried to kill him, but for the sake of the girls, NO.
5 . by: September 28, 2017, 11:29 pm

Well FUCK
