I guess she was called 'Fig' in comic and I missed it.

So she's , Fig, 'Fig', XX, and ???

I feel as if the color change in this page is just for dramatic effect, a buildup of tension.

@Furrama
Her teeth seem to be used as a thematic delivery of her concept/art/what she's about in some cases; remember Battery's weird color explosion?

I wonder if it's not foreshadowing/portraying her as making a threat, as she's quite angry with him. When Fig brushed him with her tail back in reality, it turned part of XY blank white for a panel, iirc. It could also be one of the ways used to depict her attempts at enticement, in that regard. Either way, they may have stepped out of the realm of the womb and into Fig's world, perhaps, as the whole background is now blank... [and the color seems to have faded from her nose, + the shift from cool to warm... hmm...]

I actually hadn't thought about it until you brought it up; thank you for doing so.

Detail I've been mulling over: In panels 11 and 12 we have opposing images of Fig and (S)XY, which beckons us to compare and contrast.

So, why is the inside of her mouth blank, like the background, while his is not?

I have thoughts, but I'd love to hear y'all's!

I think unemotional works, in that someone can plausibly withhold their emotions out of fear. "Unempathetic" I get the meaning of, but the cadence is a little too close to unemotional to begin with and isn't as immediately descriptive.

Actually, maybe 'ruthless' would work. It doubles down on 'exacting' and 'cold', while also adding onto a lack of compassion. Though it connotes a little more active cruelty, the root meaning means without 'ruth' (i.e. mercy or remorse).

try "unempathetic"

Hi,

I think a better word than "unemotional" might be "unsympathetic". This word escaped me last night. I wanted to use the word "mechanical", but it drew too many connections to "machine". "Mechanical" in the sense of withholding all affection, while maintaining only affectation.

I do admire that (S)XY is keeping her on topic, even as she threatens him and tries to change the subject.

That's a hard thing to do, speaking from experience. XX has been continually rolled by Fig, but (S)XY isn't allowing it to happen to him. He cut to the heart of Fig's motivations... but (also speaking from experience) when that happens these sorts of people tend to resort to violence. If they can't talk you into what they want they'll beat you into submission.

Because it's all about control. And with such an abusive person at the helm, there can be no love for XX or anyone else she interacts with.

Oh no, Smoothie, you're getting a bit too big on her turf.

Something is going to happen that makes the mouse or RG so worried they try to wake him, even though XY said not to do so under any circumstances. My guess is doing such traps him in some kind of limbo.

@1 I think Fig is "unemotional" because Smoothie can see Fig's underlying emotional motivation that would lead her to this behavior, however, she's not openly expressing that fear directly in her behavior at the moment. She is coming off as cold & emotionless & demanding because she's afraid of something.

The one and only...the same phrase is used by her boyfriend to introduce her to the brothel owner back on page 54. I may be hoping for to much but I want to see her use this line for herself, not as the flowerless girl or Fig the prostitute, but as XX the artist.

The fear of obsolescence? Irrelevance?

She's a bit bigger than him it seems.

Uh oh. He hit a nerve.

Interesting that a representative of emotions, such as fear, would be described as "unemotional".

Colors fading. Desaturating. Greying out.
