it's funny how skeptical RG is of this dude.
I also like how he added in the "..on hiatus" in quotes like that. like he actually respects and regards her as an artist :3

Regarding the big tail of psychxy (syke-zee) (like sexy and psych), it wasn't that big on previous pages, mustelids exhibit piloerection of their tails with excitement. So it's practically a woody. They poof their tails in anger when fighting, in arousal, and in uncertainty with new situations.

@17 He could just use her vision praxis.

does Smoothie have a skill to see the red, like XX/Fig does after the scroll? being a HOIT member and all?

is he going to be able to go "oh I know exactly what this is!" for any given reason when he sees her abstracts?

@15 She's so far down the spiral that she's being defensive by being sexy.

I'M GLAD SMOOTHIE FOUND OUT!!!

But I too fear for his safety.

It's also, again, super sad that Fig is avoiding bringing up her art. That was the first thing she brought up every time before :(

I think the white background is very important. I think that Fig was succeeding in overpowering the conversation, ruffling Smoothie's feathers enough to have to withdraw, but the color background snaps back as soon as she realizes that he's accidentally prying into her "real" identity by getting near the paintings. I have a feeling that Smoothie is going to feel maybe a little smugly vindicated by being proven right about her having separate interests and depth, but hopefully knowing that she's an artist really gives them something substantial to talk about.

It's a crazy parallel to the scene with the chef stoat. In that scene she was very emotional and defensive about the nature of her 'real self', clearly trying to convince herself as well as him and the facade was extremely transparent with how emotional she was. Here there's still a hint that she's trying to convince herself as much as him that this is 'the real her', but it's much more subtle. Her facade is much thicker and she's not responding to the prying into her identity with defensiveness like she was before. She's really gone further down the spiral. I wonder if we'll see her become hostile again now that he's found out she's an artist.

Hmmm... erasure.

"I wonder if she has a painting of him in there. She's usually eager (well, not recently) to show others her art."

It might be that she's keeping what Sherry threatened in mind, and has decided that showing her hobbies would compromise the image Sherry wants her to present. Having lots of strange paintings suggests that sex isn't her real passion.

Worth keeping in mind that Smoothie is part of HIOT and he seems to know exactly what he is dealing with in regards to Fig/XX. If any violence does come his way, there's a good chance he'll be able to handle it... let's hope, at least.

@8 and 9:
Smoothie also has strong angles in his facial structure, something that I think is generally found desirable in human males as well. Greenie has something similar going on in his face too.
9 . by: February 14, 2017, 7:16 pm

@North fwiw, XX thought Smoothie was hot as he walked in the door, before she saw his tail. So I bet it HELPS but it's probably not the only decided factor, lol.
8 . by: North February 14, 2017, 6:18 pm

Smoothie has a pretty big tail, huh? Nothing compared to Fig's, but definitely poofier than Greenie's. I wonder if we can consistently tell the hotness factor of every stoat in Syconium from this?
7 . by: February 14, 2017, 5:02 pm

@6 I'm almost convinced Smoothie is going to be the victim of some violence, and my best guess is actually Greenie as the perpetrator.

Man, i'm just beginning to think, what if smoothie dies? I don't think he'll fail to learn about XX, but that doesn't preclude some climactic (cough) reversal. XX gouged a one page character during a session, so who knows how 'into' Smoothie she'll get, in this state, if they finally do it. Or rather, if she finally captures him.

@3 I was thinking of Secretary, too. Also 10%+, when Rule used his "red teeth" style on Meander.
4 . by: February 14, 2017, 3:32 pm

dang, second time someone has called her out on being false. Some of it is surely looking down on the profession in general, thinking no one would EVER want to be doing what she's doing, but she must be pretty obvious about her repressed personality.
3 . by: Bicker February 14, 2017, 3:31 pm

Interesting thing going on with the color and absence of. Reminds me of Secretary. Trying to bring him into her world. And she DEFINITELY wants him.

I wonder if she has a painting of him in there. She's usually eager (well, not recently) to show others her art.

Ah, Smoothie, don't be so nosy.

Is this the first time we've actually seen a direct scent-sex connection? Most of the prior stuff has emphasized visual beauty. This time, Fig literally paints her scent (and her arousal, probably) directly onto pXY's face.
